COURSE CONTENT

Module 1: Introduction
Establishment and embodied principles related to construction.

Module 2: Laying the foundation
Important definitions and terminology applicable to construction.

Module 3: Construction work and the “permit” system
Meaning and scope of construction work. The new ‘’permit’’ system, when and how to apply for it before the performance of construction work.

Module 4: Legal responsibilities of interested and affected parties
Legal responsibilities of persons like clients, agents, principle contractors, contractors, sub-contractors; construction supervisors; construction health and safety practitioners (occupational safety practitioner) etc.

Module 5: Risk assessments
Risk assessments on construction sites with specific reference to baseline risk assessments.

Module 6: Digging into the specifications
Specifications and requirements stipulated by the various construction regulations including: Fall protection, Structures, Formwork and support work, Excavation work, Demolition work, Tunnelling, Scaffolding, Suspended platforms, Boatswain’s chairs, Material hoists, Bulk mixing plant, Explosive powered tools, Cranes, Vehicles and mobile plant, Electrical installations and machinery, Flammable liquids, Water environments, Housekeeping, Stacking and storage, Fire precautions, Employees facilities, Construction health and safety technical committee, Approved inspection authorities.

Module 7: Health and safety plan
What should the ‘’health and safety plan’’ consist of. (Example included – CD format)

Module 8: Legal appointments
Legal appointments relevant to construction. (Examples included – CD format)

Module 9: Other prescribed documentation

PURPOSE OF THE COURSE
The course is aimed at equipping participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to understand and interpret the prescriptions of the Construction Regulations in order to ensure legal compliance on construction sites and workplaces.

The course also provides an overviews of the ‘‘Draft Amendment to the Construction Regulations’’, published on 11 May 2010.

COURSE OUTCOMES
After attending this program the learner will have a clear understanding of the principles and statues stipulated by the Construction Regulations. The Learner will also be updated on the latest amendments to these regulations.

Communicating and using the terminology relevant to construction
